Tax advisory services for new international employees at SDU

Tax assistance can be provided to international researchers in connection with the recruitment of potential employees and to employees who come to Denmark at the beginning of their employment (relocation). The tax advisory services are provided by KPMG effective from January 1, 2025.

KPMG is an independent advisory firm specializing in tax advisory services.

Who can use the agreement?

Newly hired international employees who will work in Denmark can contact KPMG for tax advisory services once their employment is confirmed. The expense must be approved by the department head, and an agreement for tax advisory services must therefore go through the department.

What services does KPMG offer in connection with tax advisory services?

The tax assistance includes employment-related tax matters.

Tax meeting:

The tax meeting is held online.
During the meeting, the employee's tax situation will be discussed, and information about the researcher tax scheme and its conditions will be provided.

Tax card:

In connection with entry into Denmark, we recommend preparing a preliminary assessment to ensure correct tax withholding. This involves preparing the tax card with the tax authorities. This is usually not relevant if the employee can choose the special researcher tax scheme.

Specially for Villum International Postdoc (VIP, recipients of the Villum Foundation family package)

VIPs have the opportunity to receive tax advisory services in connection with their departure regarding an assessment of their tax situation. The tax advisory services only cover the researcher and not any accompanying spouse/partner.

The tax advisory services are intended to help researchers make it easier to budget for their stay abroad, for example, to assess the length of the stay, what is feasible in terms of bringing family, etc.

The assessment can include taxation of any remaining residence in Denmark, taxation of expenses covered by the family package, and possible tax advisory services regarding taxation in the destination country for the departure. If necessary, a briefing with the host country can be arranged to adjust taxes in both countries with the employee.

For a standard briefing, the fee is usually the same in the home country and the host country. An agreement on this must be made at the first tax meeting with KPMG, and the agreement must be approved by the department head.

Prices for services

  • Tax meeting: 4.500 DKK
  • Tax card: 5.500 DKK

Process for using the scheme

  1. The agreement can be used after approval from the department head.
  2. Fill out the form.
  3. In the form, indicate which package the employee wishes to use.
  4. Send the form to: Jakob.Wendler@kpmg.com and Pernille.Paisen@kpmg.com
  5. KPMG can then provide the tax assistance.

NB. If the employee contacts KPMG directly without prior approval, it is considered private assistance, which is not related to SDU.

KPMG notes that the prices assume very efficient meeting execution.

If you have questions about the agreement, you are welcome to contact the International Staff Office, which is part of SDU HR at: iso@sdu.dk.
