Individuals from non-EU/EEA countries can only be employed as external lecturers if they already have an employment in Denmark that grants them the right to sideline employment. Employment as an external lecturer alone is not sufficient to obtain a residence and work permit.
Before employing an external lecturer from a non-EU/EEA country, the International Staff Office (iso@sdu.dk) must be contacted. If the individual has employment with a residence and work permit at another university in Denmark, they will need a permit for sideline employment. ISO initiates the application, and the permit must be issued before he/she can start working.
If an international works illegally in Denmark, they risk deportation, and both the international and the employer (here SDU) in Denmark can be fined or imprisoned. Therefore, it is necessary for the department to ensure compliance with the above-mentioned rules before employing an external lecturer.
