Why hold performance and development reviews?
The purpose of the annual MUS (performance and development review) is to follow up on the individual employee’s work tasks and working life over the past year and formulate future development plans. In the interview, the manager and employee assess how the wishes for skills development match the University’s and the unit’s strategy and goals. The performance and development review is an important tool to ensure coherence and strategic direction in skills development for the individual employee and for the group and unit.
The performance and development review is not a replacement for ongoing dialogue and feedback between manager and employee. This should still happen on a daily basis. Nor is it a salary negotiation nor a conversation focusing on accumulated points of criticism.
The aim of performance and development reviews is to have meaningful conversations that contribute to ensuring direction, commitment and interaction in the specific work tasks and development of the individual employee as well as support the overall strategy at SDU and in the local unit.
