Shortlisting is useful in recruitment processes for scientific positions, especially if many applicants are expected. It makes it possible to reduce the number of applicants to undergo academic assessment.

Please keep in mind: If you want to use shortlisting, the job advertisement must state that shortlisting may be used in the recruitment process. Clear communication with applicants is particularly important when using shortlisting as the non-shortlisted candidates do not receive an individual academic assessment, which they might otherwise expect.

It is the appointee manager – typically a head of department or a dean – who, after the application deadline, decides whether to use shortlisting in a concrete recruitment process.

The chairman of the assessment committee will then, on behalf of the committee, shortlist applicants for an academic assessment.

The shortlisting is recommended and approved by the appointee manager.

Read more details about the process, including possible repetition of shortlisting, in the procedure description.
