Cookbook by Danielle Wilde receives a special Jury Award

<p><span style="background: white; color: #333a42;">The book &lsquo;More-than-Human Food Futures Cookbook&rsquo; has received a Special Jury Award in the Food Culture section of the Gourmand Awards at the Ume&aring; Food Symposium 2022. </span></p> <p><span style="background: white; color: #333a42;">The book was co-created within the Experimental Food Design for Sustainable Futures workshop, where 26 participants of the workshop created 11 recipes for sustainable food.</span></p> <p><span style="background: white; color: #333a42;">The recipes aim to provoke imagination and inspire critical thinking on how human-food practices could be different, supporting sustainable flourishing. </span></p> <p><span style="background: white; color: #333a42;">The recipes have been compiled into the award-winning cookbook that you can now download for free. </span></p> <p><span style="background: white; color: #333a42;"><a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cookbook.foodfutures.group/" target="_blank">Download the cookbook here</a></span></p> <p><span style="background: white; color: #333a42;">Danielle Wilde has edited the book together with </span><span>Mark&eacute;ta Dolej&scaron;ov&aacute;, Sjef van Gaalen, Hi</span><span style="font-size: 1rem;">lary Davis and Ferran Altarriba Bertran.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 1rem;"><img src="-/media/404a5627558943c390a497196695f1e6.ashx?la=en&amp;h=334&amp;w=500" style="height: 334px; width: 500px;" _languageinserted="true" alt="DanielleWilde-BookAward" /><img src="-/media/d890f97de78e4a42872513c21f05b877.ashx?la=en&amp;h=313&amp;w=500" style="height: 313px; width: 500px;" _languageinserted="true" alt="DanielleWilde-BookAward2" /></span></p>

Pia Heike Johansen is nominated for the SDG Award 2022

<p>This year, the Sustainable Development Goals Award will be presented for the fourth time to a person, company or organization that has made a special contribution to the SDGs in Denmark.</p> <p>The award has three categories, and our rural researcher Pia Heike Johansen is nominated in the category 'Change Award', which is given for the most innovative and effective idea or invention, and which also has the biggest system-changing potential.</p> <p>Pia Heike Johansen is nominated for starting Denmark's first mini spinning mill, "The Wild Spinning Mill" - a spinning mill where machines are specially built to handle small amounts of wool which can be turned into clothing and other textiles. New Project

<p><span>In February 2021, the project </span><em><span>A &ldquo;room&rdquo; of their own &ndash; training cultural workers for facilitating rural youth culture</span></em><span> will start. The project aims </span><span>to develop and design a universal high-quality training program for cultural workers in rural municipalities and rural cultural institution in the EU. </span></p> <p><span>The training program should provide the cultural workers with core competences to facilitate processes that can lead to the anchoring and building of a dynamic rural youth culture with their own room as an integrated space in their home rural area. </span></p> <p><span>The project follows up on the structured dialogue among experts in the cultural sectors and on cultural recommendations from a report from the Voices of Culture, which among other things states a lack of cooperation across, and dialogue between, generations.&nbsp; </span></p> <p><span>Rural researcher Pia Heike Johansen is leading the project. </span></p> <p><span>The project is funded by Erasmus+</span></p>

World Trade Organization (WTO) must ban harmful fisheries subsidies

<p><span>Sustainably managed wild fisheries support food and nutritional security, livelihoods, and cultures. </span></p> <p><span>Harmful fisheries subsidies &ndash; government payments that incentivize overcapacity and lead to overfishing - undermine these benefits yet are increasing globally. </span></p> <p><span>Therefore, 296 scientists spanning 46 countries and 6 continents urge the members of WTO to reach an agreement that eliminates harmful subsidies. </span></p> <p><span>&ldquo;World Trade Organization (WTO) members have a unique opportunity at their ministerial meeting in November to reach an agreement,&rdquo; the scientists write in a letter published in Science. &nbsp;</span></p> <p><span>Among the scientists is professor Brooks Kaiser,&nbsp; research leader of The Management and Economics of Resources and the Environment (MERE) Research Group.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span><a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abm1680" target="_blank">Read the letter here</a></span></p>

Felix Wasser has been awarded his PhD degree

<p><span>On Monday, October 25, 2021, Felix Wasser defended his PhD project on </span><span>enhancing advertising effectiveness.</span></p> <p><span></span><span style="font-size: 1rem;">Felix was awarded his PhD degree with words of praise from the assessment committee, which consisted of Associate Professor Yingkui Yang from our department, Prof. Dr. Dennis C. Welcome, Kasper Friis Bavnbaek

<p>On August 1, we welcomed Kasper Friis Bavnb&aelig;k, who as a research assistant will work with the municipalities' strategic village planning.&nbsp;</p> <p>Kasper is not a new face at SDU, as he has had his usual walk on SDU's campus in Esbjerg for the last five years, where he first studied a bachelor's degree Sociology and Cultural Analysis and then a master's degree in Cultural Sociology. In addition, he was an instructor in statistics for our sociology students.&nbsp;</p> <p>Kasper is already well into strategic village planning, as the subject was the starting point for his thesis.&nbsp;</p> <p>In the thesis, he examined whether the perception that planners of strategic village planning have of the rural areas is consistent with the perception held by the residents.</p> <p>Through a discourse analysis, Kasper found that the notion of rural areas draws on several themes such as nature, agriculture, social life, history, economics and the rural as opposed to the city. Where village planners define rural areas on the basis of their shortcomings compared to cities, conversely, residents define their place of residence on the basis of what the cities lack, namely nature and community. The discourse that shapes the work of strategic village planning thus does not always agree with the residents' definition of rural areas. This thesis therefore recommends people who work with the strategic village planning to better recognize the discourse that prevails in the villages when planning viable villages.</p> <p>Welcome - we look forward to the collaboration!</p> <p style="color: #202124; background-color: #f8f9fa; width: 270px; margin-top: -2px; margin-bottom: -2px; padding-top: 2px; padding-right: 0.14em; padding-bottom: 2px; border: none;"><span class="Y2IQFc"> </span></p>
