Limited IT support 8-9 October
IT Support will participate in a seminar on 8 and 9 October. During this period, there will be changes in the physical support and extended processing time for enquiries.
In Kolding, Slagelse and Copenhagen, the physical IT support will be closed both days. On Campusvej in Odense, only the Service Desk at Gydehutten will be open. In Sønderborg and Esbjerg, they are open, but with very limited staffing.
Support can still be contacted by creating a case at service.sdu.dk or by calling 6550 2990. However, longer response times must be expected as staffing is reduced during the seminar.

New organisation of the study administration – close dialogue and continuous updates
Last week, Director Thomas Buchvald Vind and Deputy Director of Studies Stinne Hørup Hansen met with education administration staff at the five faculties and Central Administration. The purpose was to provide an update on the work of organising the study administration in a new way – and not least to listen to the questions and input that the employees brought.

Large donation from the Otto Mønsted Foundation paves the way for a new student entrepreneurship centre at the University of Southern Denmark
SDU is on the verge of a remarkable strengthening of its efforts to promote entrepreneurship and innovation among students. The Otto Mønsted Foundation has decided to support the university with a generous donation of DKK 50 million - one of the largest single donations from the foundation to date - for the establishment of a new, creative innovation house on campus in Odense.

Simon Kjær Hermansen has been appointed acting head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences as of 1 May 2025. He succeeds Peter Mygind Leth, who is stepping down from the position but will continue working full time as chief forensic pathologist for about a year.

On 1 May 2025, the Henning G. Kruse Foundation will transfer the landmark property at Sædding Strandvej 18 in Esbjerg to the University of Southern Denmark. The building was previously the private residence of pioneer and businessman Henning G. Kruse and has been owned by the Henning G. Kruse Foundation since his death in 2022. Now the building will be used for research and development activities.

Prospect of 20 New Study Places in the Medical Programme in Esbjerg
As part of the new rural development initiative, the government plans to allocate an additional 20 study places to the Master’s programme in Medicine at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). Not everyone is aware of the alliance and the opportunities it offers you as a lecturer, researcher or student. Organization and roles in the improvement initiative
Improvement consultant Jørgen Ejler Pedersen from SDU Digital will be associated with the strategic improvement effort at the faculty one day a week. He will be responsible for establishing and driving the systematic improvement work, including education and competence development of leaders and employees at the faculty who will be working on improvement areas.
AC assistant Nickie Glissmann Nim will work closely with Jørgen Ejler Pedersen with the purpose of learning more about the methods and processes used in systematic improvement work. Eventually, the plan is for Nickie Glissmann Nim to independently lead and facilitate the improvement work at the faculty.
Area manager Kirsten Zeuthen and senior consultant Dorthe Majlund Sørensen will serve as process owners for several of the student administrative areas that will undergo end-to-end description and improvements.
Additionally, Dorthe Majlund Sørensen is the local program manager of the Nyt SIS program and has a special responsibility to ensure the connection and alignment between the student administrative processes being implemented in Nyt SIS and the improvement work at the faculty.
Merete Munk, Head of Education and Secretariat, is the project owner for the overall strategic effort at the faculty.

Odense University Hospital (OUH) and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) are launching a new joint initiative, ‘Flagship Centres between OUH and SDU’, which focuses on high-quality research in an equal collaboration between researchers from OUH and SDU. The flagship centres replace what was previously known as elite research centres at OUH.

Call to save on hot water
The implementation of the previously announced energy-saving measures at SDU has begun. For legal reasons, the decision to turn off the hot water to the taps has been revoked. Therefore, all SDU employees are instead encouraged to limit and preferably avoid using hot water for hand washing.

SDU still ranks among the leading sustainable universities
The internationally recognised magazine Times Higher Education ranks SDU 93rd among 1,400 universities from around the world. Based on the universities’ work with sustainability, SDU is pleased with the ranking, even though the university was ranked 23rd last year.

Psykolog og forskningsleder Mia Beck Lichtenstein tiltrådte den 1. maj 2022 stillingen som professor i digital psykiatri ved Telepsykiatrisk Center i Psykiatrien i Region Syddanmark og Klinisk Institut ved Syddansk Universitet.

Law degree programme to be created at SDU in Esbjerg
From the autumn of 2023, SDU will offer a law degree programme in Esbjerg. This is clear after RUVU (the advisory committee for the evaluation of the offering of higher education programmes) has approved SDU’s application for the education. This was announced by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during a visit to SDU in Esbjerg on Thursday morning.

The canteen’s plates are unsuitable for microwave cooking. They are made from 100% melamine plastic which MAY give off formaldehyde og melamine when heated in a microwave oven. Therefore, please avoid using plates from the canteen when microwaving food.

It is now possible to do interviews for TV or radio at SDU
SDU now has the facilities to broadcast live to the Danish and international press in high quality from Campus Odense. This means that an interview can be conducted at the University, making it easier for both the media and the expert being interviewed.

Drop in quota 2 applications
At SDU, the number of quota 2 applicants has dropped by 10% compared to last year. The decrease is seen across multiple programmes and campuses, and the university sector as a whole has seen a fall in quota 2 applicants by 12%. Now the test-based admission process awaits all of the 8,193 applicants who have accepted to sit for the test.

To dage efter, at hans hustru Pamela døde, afgik professor i farmakologi ved SDU, Ove Alfred Nedergaard ved døden efter flere års svagelighed. Han blev 91 år gammel.

New enterprise resource planning system well underway
On Monday 7 February, the new enterprise resource planning system (ERP) will go live and all financial staff from departments and units can start using it. The system provides the basic platform for modernising and streamlining financial and accounting processes. Since 10 January it has not been possible to receive or send invoices, so the opening is anticipated and the invoices are ready to be processed in the new system.

SDU’s institutional plan has been submitted
SDU has submitted a plan to the Ministry of Higher Education and Science describing how the University intends to comply with the political agreement on more and better educational opportunities throughout Denmark. The content is largely identical to the draft presented to the Board in December. SDU wants to strengthen the University’s regional position, but this should not happen by reducing SDU’s student places in Odense.
