Generative AI

What is coming at SDU?

By Nina Thorsted Petersen, , 11/29/2024

Copilot Pro

SDU is investigating the possibilities of providing the Microsoft license for Copilot Pro (Copilot functionalities in the Office suite) to employees. A test with around 30 participants will help to determine whether the effect of working with Copilot Pro is consistent with the increased license costs. Copilot Pro also awaits a security assessment.

Self-built chatbots

As part of the "Generative AI in Administration" project, experiments are being conducted to build SDU chatbots in Microsoft's Azure AI Studio and in U-Cloud. This way, we will learn what it takes to get chatbots to work as desired. Here too, we are awaiting a security assessment as well as the preparation of the Data Inspectorate's impact analysis.

If you build chatbots yourself, be aware of SDU's guidelines for data and information security, as well as handling copyright when using generative AI. It requires a significant effort to build and maintain a specialized chatbot, as the training data should always be updated and valid. If the chatbot is to be used by others than yourself, it must be security assessed.

Security approvals of Generative AI tools take time

When the tools need to handle such large amounts of data, including sensitive and confidential data, it means that GDPR legislation and the EU's AI Act place high demands on data protection and require SDU to continuously assess risks and update security assessments.

Read more details about security assessments and security approvals here.

AI action plan

Many experiments and pilot actions with generative AI are underway across SDU. They provide insights that we need to build on. If we are to truly create targeted value within a safe framework, there will be a need for a broader and more unified approach. This includes dialogue across SDU about our positive ambitions and critical stance towards the technology, where the ethical and philosophical questions that naturally arise from the opportunities generative AI offers must be illuminated.

At SDU, we will develop an AI action plan that frames our approach to AI. This work will accelerate at the beginning of 2025.
